As an amateur player, Paul was a two-time pre-season All American at Johns Hopkins University and led Hopkins to its first #1 national ranking in 2004. In addition to coaching collegiately, Paul has worked with thousands of area youth through camps, clinics, and private lessons. He saw two of his players go on to play professionally as well as Hopkins become National Runners-Up at the 2008 Div III College World Series. Paul was also an assistant coach at JHU during its fall season. Later that year, he won the Carolina League Championship with the Keys(A+). He spent most of 2008 with the Frederick Keys(A+) before being promoted to the Bowie Baysox (AA) as a reserve for the playoff roster. Paul Winterling played 5 years of Minor League Baseball in the Baltimore Orioles Organization.
